                                                      Rabbi Meir

Rabbi Meir says if you find scattered fruits,  scattered money, loaves of bread from a specific baker, dates or figs in a circle, dried fish on a line, pieces of meat, bundles of yarn, bundles of seeds of flax. If you find these items you can keep them, because they have no signs.

                                                      Rabbi Yehuda

 

Rabbi Yehuda says if you find a special plate made out of  ceramics or bread baked with money inside of it, you have to go to the town square and ask if anyone lost an item. If the person says it’s his item, then he must describe it to the person who found it. For example, he must ask the person who claims it, what size it is, what colour it is, or anything other questions that are necessary, because it has a sign.

                                  Rabbi Shimon Ben Elazar

 

Rabbi Shimon Ben Elazar says if you find new kitchen ware you can keep it, because there are no signs, because it has never been used before.

רב מאיר אומר שאם אתה מוצא את פרות מפוזרים, כסף מפוזר, כיכרות לחם מאופה ספציפי ,תאנים במעגל, דגים מיובשים על חוט, חתיכות בשר, צרורות של צמר, צרורות של פשתן. אם אתה מוצא את הפריטים האלה אתה יכול לשמור אותם.

רבי יהודה אמר שאם מצא צלחת עם דוגמא ולחם עם כסף בפנים צריך להגיד שמצא כי יש סימן.

רבי שעמון בן אלעזר אמר אם מואצים כלי מטבח חדשים לא חיבים להגיד שמצנו כי אין סימן.

In 1938, an 18 year old teenager lost his high school ring. He by mistake flushed it down the toilet when he was 19. The man’s friend found the ring on the job when the man that lost it was 90 then recognized it because he went to the same high school and it had the man’s initials and the year he graduated 1938. Luckily the man that found the ring was his friend. He was nice enough to give the ring to the man and not have sold the ring.

 

The ring had a sign (סימן) just like in the Mishnah the special ceramic plate had a sign.

In the Mishnah they found the owner of the ceramic plate like the person in the story the man that found the ring gave it back.

In the Mishnah they announced it at the town square (ככר העיר) but in the case he called him and tracked him down.

my opinion is that someone found the ring because it had a sign; this is very similar to the story in the Mishnah about the ceramic plate.

Noah:

My opinion is that the story is similar to the Mishnah because, they are both honest.

Julia:

My opinion is that the person who found the ring had to go through a lot to find the person who lost it.

Rachel:

My opinion is that the story about the collage ring is comparable to the Mishnah because, both the story and the Mishnah are true.
